F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The TV Show

“Friends” was a T.V. show that started on September 22, 1994. It was the most watched series of the decade as well as the series to get the maximum hits in the 20^th century. The series was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, in association with Warner Brothers Television. The show revolved around six friends living in New York, United States of America. Even though the concept of the show was very simple and common during that time, yet somehow the show managed to get positive reviews throughout the 10years of its run. The show was premiered every Thursday evening on NBC channel for 22-26 minutes.

The characters in the show were Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, Matt Le Blanc as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller. Each character had an equal importance in the show, in fact, all were paid equal salary and they all requested to be in the magazine covers together everytime. Monica Geller and Ross Geller were represented as brother and sister, Ross being the elder one. Monica started her career as a cook in a restaurant when the show started, who later got fired due to bad reviews, and by the end of the show, she worked as a head chef in a famous restaurant. Her character was a very attractive woman who loved cooking and staying organized about everything. Throughout the show she was depicted as a dreamy girl who wanted to get married and have kids as soon as possible. After season 4, Monica falls for Chandler Bing and in the end they get married with a twin baby boy and baby girl.

Rachel Green, was a rich spoiled girl who was friends with Monica Geller in High School. In the first episode of the show, Rachel runs away from her wedding with a guy called Barry who never truly loved her. After running away from the wedding she starts living with Monica and gets to know about the hardships in life as she starts making money by working as a waitress. Monica’s brother Ross had a huge crush on Rachel back in High School and hence they both start dating in the second season. By certain turn of events, Rachel breaks up with Ross in season 3 but both end having a child together in season 9. By the end of the show, Rachel forfeits the plan of working in Paris as a Fashion Designer so that she could start a new relationship with Ross again.

Phoebe Buffay is displayed as a superstitious, sly and fun woman even though she has had a very hard life in the past. She lived with her grandmother in poverty, without ever having to go to college. She worked as a Masseuse for living and loved playing guitar in front of other people. She became friends with Monica when she started living with her but moves out because of Monica’s controlling behavior. By the end of the show Phoebe meets a great guy Mike and they both end up marrying each other.

Joey Tribbiani is the dumb Casanova in the series. He is displayed as one of the most good looking Italian who lives next door to Monica and Rachel with Chandler. Joey works as an upcoming soap opera actor for the first eight seasons of the show, and finally gets two good shows- “Mac and Cheese” and “Days of Our Lives”. Joey never settled down with anyone in the entire show, but he does fall in love with Rachel in season 8. He ended up living in an empty apartment by the end of the show.

Chandler Bing is the funniest guy in the series. He is cute and funny, but still has no good luck with the ladies. He was with Ross in college and lived next door to Monica. In the starting, he works in a computer company even though he never liked working there. It was near the end of the show, when he realizes that he should work in advertising. In the end, Chandler marries Monica, his best friend’s sister and they end up having twin baby boy and baby girl.

Ross Geller is displayed as the dinosaur geek who goes through 3 divorces in the entire series. The first one was with carol when he finds out that she is a lesbian, second with a girl called Emily who never trusted him after Ross calls Emily as “Rachel” by mistake at the altar. The third one with Rachel, the love of his life, when they get married in Vegas because of drinking too much. Ross’ character is one of the most interesting ones on the show, since he never knew when to shut up while talking, and also because he never understood his feelings for Rachel till the end. But by the end of the series, Ross ends up with Rachel and their daughter Emma.

The show is now known all over the world. There have been many fan requests for starting it again, but there hasn’t been any news on this topic yet. The DVDs of this show are still making money for the producers, even after 9 years of the premiere of the last episode.
