Intolerance is unwillingness to accept the different beliefs, culture, behaviour or views that
differ from one’s own. Intolerance has always been present in our society either it be due to
religion,culture or our behaviour.
Intolerance is one of the most influencing factors affecting human behaviour in social domain.
In today’s generation the tolerance level is deteriorating day by day which is adversaly affecting
our behaviour, culture, attitude and overall our mannerism. It may be towards one’s behaviour.
Intolerance can also be towards a caste or race. In our society most people don’t believe in
intercaste marriages and oppose it. For example the sexuality of a person is his/her private matter .
But there are people who don’t accept homosexuality and shun the people who are homosexual
Intolerance may lead to violence . We have heard about incidents where the person lost his/her
control over a simple thing and fight occured or even caused death. One of the main factor of
intolerance is opposition to different ideas or beliefs. Stress may also cause one to be intolerant
towards others. It may cause us to behave in an aggressive and impulsive manner.Due to the
increasing workload, expectations and competition level ,stress is becoming common . Being short
tempered is also the factor causing intolerance.
Intolerance prevents us to become a better person. It causes hindrances in one’s development. We
must encourage tolerance and should try to respect others ideas and beliefs even if we don’t agree to it.
