As it is said “There are two sides to every story, and then there’s the truth”. Similar is the case with social networking, it has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Social networking works as a boon for us if we talk of staying connected with old friends, making new friends. Other benefit is getting employment, developing customer relationships, educational benefits, creating awareness among people. Some important benefits of these sites are they are free of cost and easy to use. The second most important benefit out of these are establishing diversity as people from different countries or states are your friends so you get to know about their culture and religion.
If one is aware about the benefits social networking sites offer, one must also account for the dangers prevailing. The two most important are privacy issues as the person sharing photos or videos on a site is not sure if they are secure enough and next major issue is internet addiction. The youth has become so addictive that teens even get frustrated when they can’t connect to these sites as mapped by a survey. Other disadvantage is cyber bullying that has increased rapidly over these sites now-a-days. Wastage of time which could have been used somewhere else for doing something innovative or creative. Also, health problems have aroused among the young generation due to frequent use of these sites.
Thus, we conclude that though social networking has eliminated the geographical distances and brought us closer to each other but at the same time it has reduced the real life gatherings.
